Disney Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters - A Review

I am so excited about my most recent book purchase.  Of course, I say I bought it for the kids, but I am enjoying it just as much as they are!  It is called Disney Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters.  I actually found it in a catalog I received in the mail the other day called abc Distributing.  The book was only $5.95 and since I am a Upromise member, I had a coupon which took an additional 10% off.

Now as you may know, I am a Disney fanatic, or as my family calls me a "Disney Hound," since I am always trying to find out knew Disney info and discounts.  My children luckily seem to be following in my footsteps of becoming Disney fanatics themselves, or as I call them Disney Fanatics in the making.  This book is a great way for them to learn about their favorite characters, as well as introduce them to characters they have never seen.

This encyclopedia is full of information from classic animated films, such as Snow White and Bambi to the more recent Disney Pixar movies, such as Wall-E, Monsters Inc. and Cars.  Each page gives a quick biography of the character, the movie it first appeared in, as well as a trivia section and fun facts.  We read to our children every night and I will say we have read from this book every night since it arrived, and the kids look forward to which characters they will read about the next night.  If you are looking for a book that will introduce your child to a character or give them more information about a character they already know and love, this is the one!

I highly recommend this addition to your library whether you are already a Disney fanatic or a Disney fanatic in the making!  Enjoy!

  2. My kids are 5, 4 and 2 and can't read it enough. When I saw it for 5.95 I figured it would just be this little pocket guide type book, but it isn't! It's about 11 or 12 inches tall, so it is good size. I am calling it one of my best buys of the year! :-)

  4. I am thinking of purchasing this for my nephew's too for Christmas. They will be 3.5 and 9 months. They will be coming with us on our next trip to Disney, so this will be a great introduction to a lot of the characters!

  5. My 11 year old son is taking this book to Disney World instead of an autograph book. He loved the book and thought that it was a much cooler idea for collecting autographs then the regulair blank books. If you look for the book on Amazon.com you will see people selling it for as much as $150.00!! I bought several from a different catalog and I have been giving them away as gifts.

  6. Great idea, Christina! This book is by far one of my kids' favorites. I can't believe someone is selling them for $150! I should have bought more for $5.95 and put them on ebay! :-) Thanks for commenting!

  7. just got back from Disney and the book was a HUGE hit! The characters thought it was a really neat idea to use it as an autograph book. Aladin got a big kick out of his page which includes cool and not so cool quotes. He looked at Alex and said "I said some pretty silly things didn't I?" At that point Jasmine who was taking pictures with my daughter looked over and asked what they were talking about so Aladin showed her the book. She wanted to know if she had a page too so Alex flipped open to her page and she laughed. Then she asked if he had met Belle yet since they were friends and she knew that Belle loved to read and that she would love to know that she was in a book! Alex said no, but later on we did meet Belle and because of the book she had a lovely chat with Alex about their favorite books. Many of the people in line were upset when I told them that I didn't buy it at Disney. If you know of anyone that is going I recommend this as a gift, even the characters loved it!
Oh, and at Animal Kingdom Baloo started hopping up and down because he has a page and King Louie does not and they were together (only Baloo signs though), Baloo kept making the #1 symbol and King Louie hung his head!!
